Sucrose

Formed by linking one molecule of glucose with one of fructose, sucrose is the carbohydrate commonly known as “sugar,” and is used as a sweetener in foods. Although it is found in a wide variety of plants, it is mainly extracted and commercially produced from sugarcane and sugar beets. In Brazil, sucrose is the primary source of carbon when fermenting cane syrup to produce fuel ethanol.
